As I was just settling into some farming in Jugner this morning, Cinn popped on and mentioned that he was going to farm the Kuftal key he needed for his AF helm quest. Since he's always willing to help out when I need (want) something and so rarely wants anything big for himself, I leapt at the opportunity to tag along and help out.
We finally managed to steal enough crabs from the 75s that were there killing them (wth, you're 75, move along) to find a key. A few minutes of looking revealed the treasure coffer right where we'd been camped—it must have spawned there while we were searching. We recruited Ham to help us on the NM fight for the helm—there were a couple close calls, but nobody died (except the NM). Cinn got his helm, and we were pretty psyched about it—we decided to see if we couldn't get more of his AF just so his head didn't look so out of place!
We hit Quicksand next, and got the key within two or three mobs. The coffer was pretty easy to locate, too, even if it required running from the Western Altepa side to the Eastern Altepa side before we could even start looking! Still pumped from our string of successes, we cruised over to Ifrit's Cauldron for the Drachen Mail.
The Cauldron coffer key is in itself reason enough for me to never, ever, ever even bother to unlock Dragoon. Sure, they're cool, have high damage output, their Wyverns are insanely cute and a huge help when things get hairy—it even looks kinda fun. But that key very nearly doesn't even exist, and nothing else in the game matches the rest of the AF set.
Upon arriving, we killed a few opo-opos while scouting for the coffer. We also noticed that we were the only two people in the entire zone—rather than recognizing this as a bad omen, we thought it meant we'd have an easy time! We located the coffer at the second possible spawn point from where we came in, and proceeded to farm the nearby mobs, though there were times that it felt more like they were farming us.
We took a 3- or 4-hour break in the midst of our farming, and when we got back to check, our coffer was still there! Again, we thought we were in luck and not, for instance, that it meant the stupid key hasn't dropped for anyone all day. After a lot of time and a bit of death, during which I repeatedly leveled and de-leveled, and somebody ninja'd the coffer (not to fear, it respawned in the third possible location, which was pretty close by) the key finally did drop—the mob that dropped it dropped me first, of course, and nearly got Cinn as well, and we both ended up deathwarping after he retrieved the goods from the coffer.
I couldn't complain—even with the up-and-down around the level 63 mark, I was several thousand exp ahead of where I started the day and Cinn is sporting all but one piece of AF now, which made it all worthwhile. It was late, but he offered to do a page with me before logging for the night to get my level back one last time. We hit Ro'Maeve, which was a bit more crowded than on our last visit, and proceeded to once again compete with a bunch of level 75s for the mobs we needed. (Again, if you're level 75 and duoing or trioing with other level 75s, you don't really have an excuse for doing a page that two people synced at 61 can do!)
I made a hasty pull and got myself killed one last time for good measure, but then it smoothed out. Finishing the page left me sitting at 3 TNL. Yes, 21,497/21,500. We snagged another mob on the way out, so I'll be starting the day tomorrow as RDM63!
Afterward, I settled for buying materials and making quivers for profit rather than farming materials and making leather for skill-ups, so nothing to report on the synthing front!
